A toy for foldable iPhones
Open it slowly.
Hear the door creak.
Open or close your foldable iPhone slowly and the old wooden door on screen creaks along with it. Move faster and the creak fades and rises in pitch; stop and it goes silent. On any other iPhone, you swing the same door with your finger.
iPhone only, iOS 27.1 or later.

The door from the app icon. Slow is loud, fast is quiet.
How it sounds
Slow is loud. Fast is quiet.
The app turns how quickly the hinge moves into the sound of the door. It listens to how fast you move, not to where the hinge is.
-
Slowly
A loud, low creak
Ease the phone open or closed and the old hinge groans, deep and long.
-
Faster
It fades and rises in pitch
Rush it and the creak thins out and climbs, the way a door sounds when it is hurried.
-
Stop
Instant silence
Hold the hinge still and the sound stops at once. A resting door says nothing.
Three creaks to choose from
Pick one from the settings menu next to the Sound toggle. The app remembers your choice.
- Old door
- Squeaky gate
- Cellar door
What you get
One screen, one door.
Creaky Hinge is a small toy, not a game with levels. It does one thing and tries to do it well.
-
A door that follows your hinge
One screen: an old wooden door in a stone wall that swings with the phone, from shut at 0° to folded flat against the wall at 180°. As it opens, candlelight spills through the doorway onto the floor.
-
Feel it too
Turn vibration on and the Taptic Engine buzzes along with the creak, then knocks once when the door reaches fully closed or fully open. Sound and vibration switch on and off separately.
-
Real recordings
The creaks are cut from public-domain (CC0) recordings and looped without a seam, so a slow opening can run as long as you like.
-
Works with VoiceOver
The door is one VoiceOver element that reads out how far it is open. On a phone without a hinge, swipe up or down on it to swing it.
Foldable or not
The real hinge needs a foldable iPhone.
Only a foldable iPhone has a hinge for the app to listen to. We would rather tell you that here than in a review.
On a foldable iPhone
The door follows the phone's own hinge, from shut to folded flat against the wall. Open or close the phone slowly and the door creaks as it moves. With vibration on, you feel a knock when the door reaches either end.
On any other iPhone
There is no hinge, so you drag the door with a finger instead. It is the same door with the same creaks and the same vibration, but it moves with your hand rather than with the phone. With VoiceOver, swipe up or down on it.
Both need iOS 27.1 or later. There is no Android version.
Nothing else
It creaks. That is all.

Questions
Before you download
Do I need a foldable iPhone?
For the real hinge, yes: the door follows your phone’s hinge, so it creaks as you open and close the phone. On any other iPhone the same door is there and you swing it by dragging it with a finger. Either way the app needs iOS 27.1 or later.
What are the three creaks?
An old door, a squeaky gate and a cellar door. Pick one from the settings menu next to the Sound toggle; the app remembers your choice.
Can I turn the sound or the vibration off?
Yes, separately. The Sound toggle is on the main screen, and vibration is in the settings menu next to it. With vibration on, the Taptic Engine buzzes along with the creak and knocks once when the door reaches fully closed or fully open.
Does it play when my iPhone is on silent?
Yes. The app plays its sound with the silent switch on, and it mixes with other audio, so a podcast keeps playing underneath. Switch Sound off in the app to quiet it.
Does it cost anything or show ads?
No. It is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases.
What data does the app collect?
None. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no server. Your choices of creak, sound and vibration stay on your phone. This website is separate: it uses Google Analytics only after you accept the banner, as the privacy page explains.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Everything the app needs is on your phone, so it works in airplane mode.
Where do the sounds come from?
They are cut from CC0 (public-domain) recordings of real doors and gates, looped without a seam. CC0 needs no attribution, so the app credits no one.
How do I report a problem or send feedback?
Open the settings menu and choose Send feedback, which starts an email to info@swtlm.com with your version number in the subject. You can also write to info@swtlm.com directly.
